The first lady of Madison Avenue’s creative revolution
Phyllis Robinson was the first full-time female advertising copywriter to break into the traditional man’s world that was Manhattan’s Madison Avenue in the heady days of the 1950s and 1960s. In a reference to today’s popular television series Mad Men, based on Madison Avenue in that era, New York magazine described her in a recent headline as “The Original Mad Woman”. Robinson worked on memorable campaigns for numerous clients, including Ohrbach’s
